Fast becoming an international phenomenon, The Joy spread instant euphoria with a unique sound that has the ability to transcend genre and continents alike.

Originally from a small town just outside of Durban in South Africa, The Joy met at high school after entering a singing competition together and is made up of band members Ntokozo Magcaba, Melokuhle Mkhungo, Sanele Ngcobo, Phelelani Sithole and Sandile Sphelele Hlophe. The teachers and other students loved their music and encouraged them to continue to sing as a group.

Through the band’s Instagram and TikTok accounts, their music began to spread globally, soon catching the attention of high profile names within the worldwide artist community who instantly fell in love with the quintet’s repertoire of uplifting songs, unique arrangements and traditional dance moves.

With music like this and captivating live performances to match, it is no wonder The Joy has caught the attention of Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and Sam Smith and were selected to perform at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham mid-year. Early November 2022  came news that the group will perform ‘Isencane Lengane’ on a very special edition of  Later… with Jools Holland. The 30th anniversary of this iconic UK music show takes place in front of over 3000 people at West London’s Eventim Apollo and also features performances by acclaimed and award-winning singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka, Mercury Prize winner, Benjamin Clementine, and Swedish sisters, First Aid Kit among a truly stellar line-up.
