It’s fair to say that Guy Garvey is in triumphant mood. The lead singer, lyricist, and most recognisable member of the BRIT and Mercury Award winning, arena filling, Mancunian musical institution (as they must surely now be regarded) that is elbow is on a high following the completion of the band’s landmark tenth studio album.
elbow remain the only band to score four consecutive 9/10 album reviews in NME.
They won the 2009 Mercury prize winners with their fourth album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ which is certified triple platinum in the UK.
They were named Best British Band at the BRITS in 2010 and have been awarded three Ivor Novello Awards for their songwriting for ‘Grounds For Divorce’ (2009), ‘One Day Like This’ (2009), and ‘Magnificent (She Says)’ (2018).
They were the creators of ‘First Steps’, the 2012 BBC Olympic theme. The band performed at the closing ceremony at the Olympic Stadium in London.
elbow have been made free men of their hometown of Bury.
Singer Guy Garvey was made an honorary Doctor of Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2012.
AEG Presents are delighted to announce The Warwick Sessions 2025 with three huge headliners: punk rock legends The Stranglers, chart-topping pop group S Club, and Manchester’s emotive rock band elbow, with more names still to be announced. From Friday 4th to Sunday 6th July next year, music will take over St Nicholas’ Park near one of the UK’s most historic sites, Warwick Castle.
