Asha Jefferies

Plus special guest: Margo Raats

Originally hailing from the Northern Rivers but raised in Brisbane, Asha Jefferies is best known her sombre, melancholic pop songs. Her new single ‘Cruise Control’ was produced and mixed by Sam Cromack of BallPark Music in his cosy studio Prawn Records in the inner north of Brisbane. The song was written in a time of tremendous change, discovery and exploration. Asha says of the song – “To be in cruise control, is to ride steady and smoothly through the storms of rough climate, harsh roads, lame parties and undesired romantic gestures. It’s a phrase I have kept close, after a lesson learnt on testing my boundaries and finding the confidence to trust my gut. The body always wins and I’ve learnt to listen. I would rather feel safe within my body than have somebody like me and I would rather be myself than try to utilise a sense of false esteem. It’s a growing up type of anthem, cultivating comfort in my own skin and exercising what feels right and what doesn’t.” Asha has previously toured the country played with Julia Jacklin, Lime Cordiale, Hope D, Noah Dillon, City and Colour, Paul Dempsey and more. She has played festival slots at BIGSOUND, Icebreaker Festival, Against The Grain, Bluesfest, Woodford Folk and Mullum Music Festivals. Asha has won a Queensland Music Award, triple j Unearthed’s NIDA Competition and has been a finalist for both the Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition and the International Songwriting Competition (ISC).
